Middletown Kenpo Karate Studio is a community of committed and positive martial arts instructors and students who are striving to improve the physical, mental and social aspects of their lives. We work together to help everyone achieve their goals and become the best they are capable of becoming
KARATE IS NOT A GAME OF POINTS, WEIGHT CLASSES OR SHOWY DEMONSTRATIONS. IT IS A MARTIAL ART AND WAY OF LIFE THAT TRAINS A PRACTITIONER TO BE PEACEFUL.
Middletown Kenpo Karate Studio is led by experienced, trained, and competent, martial arts instructors who train students to improve the physical, mental and social aspects of their lives. We work together to help everyone achieve their goals and become the best they are capable of becoming, while teaching the life skills you won’t learn anywhere else: self-control, self-discipline, self-esteem, character development, respect, and self-defense.
Our martial arts instructors assist and mentor through personal goal setting, so the student’s motivation to excel comes from within.
MKKS was created by Lee Lowery in 1976. Professor Lowery earned his black belt from Richard Griffin who was versed in Tracy Kenpo. Professor Lowery taught an eclectic form of Kenpo that blended parts of Parker, Tracy and other forms of martial arts that he experienced. All of the training is designed to fill a tool box with life skills.
MKKS has produced well over 75 Black Belts and has been a strong member of the Middletown community. Professor Lowery retired from teaching in the martial arts, and has passed the torch to a long time student, Lynnette Hurlburt, in 2009. Lynnette has over 25 years of teaching experience, is supported by a team of experienced martial artists, some with over 25 years of teaching experience themselves.
